The BCPhA continues to support the increasing involvement of pharmacists in public vaccination programs to improve the health of British Columbians through its involvement with the BC Immunization Committee (BCIC) and Pharmacists and Immunization Working Group (PIWG).
Since February 2013, pharmacists authorized to administer injections have access to and are remunerated for the administration of more publicly funded vaccines. Pharmacists now have routine access to Td (tetanus diphtheria), MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), HPV-Cervarix, influenza and pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccines. Other publicly funded vaccines typically provided by public health or available for limited eligibility criteria are also available to authorized pharmacists by special request including hepatitis A & B vaccines, HPV-Gardasil, meningococcal-C and Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and acellular pertussis) among several others. General information is available on the BC PharmaCare website.
