Respiratory syncytial virus and herpes zoster continue to drive significant illness in older adults and those living with cardiometabolic conditions. This session will explore the burden of both infections, their links to cardiovascular events, and the clinical factors that place clients at highest risk. We’ll also highlight practical, team‑based strategies to support assessment, counselling, and coordinated care.
Learning objectives
- Assess the burden of RSV disease and herpes zoster in older adults and high-risk populations, including individuals with diabetes and cardiovascular disease
- Discuss the potential cardiometabolic consequences of herpes zoster and RSV, including the association between acute infection and subsequent cardiovascular events or decompensation of underlying disease.
- Identify clients at increased risk of severe outcomes from herpes zoster and RSV based on age, cardiometabolic comorbidities, immune status, and other clinical factors.
- Apply strategies for effective interprofessional collaboration to enhance client care and optimize health outcomes.
