COVID-19 vaccines in B.C. pharmacies

Information for patients

B.C.'s community pharmacies have been providing COVID-19 vaccines to British Columbians aged 12 and older.

Pharmacies offer mRNA vaccines for first, second, third doses and booster shots for all eligible patients. For those who are seeking a booster shot, you must have had at least six months pass since your second dose.

If you have not yet received your first vaccine, simply register with the Province's Get Vaccinated system, which will allow you to book your appointment online with a pharmacy that is located near you. Or call 1-833-838-2323 to register and book.

For second shots and boosters

British Columbians are encouraged to book their booster shot at a pharmacy as soon as they receive their invitation from the Get Vaccinated system. The Get Vaccinated system issues invitations to people at 182 days after their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Please book your appointment online as soon as you receive your invitation to book, or call 1-833-838-2323.

Spring booster program for seniors

On April 5, the provincial government began rolling out a spring booster vaccine program for seniors in long-term care and assisted living facilities and those in the community who are aged 70 and older and Indigenous people over the age of 55.

Each of these groups will begin receiving their invitations to book their next booster dose after six months of receiving their third shot.

The spring booster vaccine program will provide a new boost of immunity for eligible seniors, as public health has indicated immunity in older people can wane in that time. The new booster will help to maintain and lengthen protection against severe outcomes of COVID-19, especially hospitalization and death.

NOTE: For boosters for children aged five to 11, appointments will be made available at clinics hosted by regional health authorities.

Information on getting a non-mRNA COVID vaccine

British Columbians who prefer to get a non-mRNA vaccine can request receiving a Novavax COVID-19 vaccine.

If interested, you must first join the provincial waitlist by calling 1-833-838-2323 and ask to be be put on the non-mRNA waiting list.

Once on the waitlist, you will be contacted by either the BC Pharmacy Association's COVID Support team or a staff member from a local health unit to arrange an appointment for you to receive your Novavax vaccine.

A select number of community pharmacies and health units will be providing Novavax for patients starting the week of April 18, 2022.

As of April 14, staff are contacting those who joined the waitlist between November 2021 and February 2022.  Those on the waitlist from March and April should expect to be contacted the week of April 25.

Please do not contact pharmacies or local health units to schedule an appointment.
