BCPhA is committed to providing members with relevant, timely, and practical information that supports pharmacy practice and professional engagement. To ensure our communications continue to meet members' needs, BCPhA conducted a Communications Survey from June 1–15, inviting members to share feedback on our communication channels, publications, programs and events.

A total of 819 members participated, representing approximately 21 per cent of BCPhA's membership. Responses reflected a broad range of perspectives across the profession, including pharmacists at all stages of their careers, from students and early-career practitioners to experienced and retired pharmacists. Members working in a variety of practice settings — including chain, banner, independent, and other pharmacy environments — were represented, as were health regions across British Columbia. Approximately one-quarter of respondents were within their first five years of practice, providing important insight into the preferences and needs of newer members.

The survey explored members’ experiences with our communications products and channels, including The Tablet magazine, BCPhA social media, and e-newsletters such as Practice Update, Issue Update, and Scope of Practice Round-up. Members were also asked to provide feedback on key BCPhA initiatives and events, including the BCPhA Annual Conference, Telephone Town Hall, MLA Tours, and the Pharmacy Excellence Awards.

In addition to multiple-choice questions, the survey generated hundreds of open-ended comments that provided valuable context and insight into members’ experiences and preferences.

Several themes emerged from the results. Members identified Practice Update and Issue Update e-newsletters as among BCPhA's most valued communication products, with 87 per cent and 72 per cent of respondents, respectively, rating them as valuable or very valuable. Respondents consistently highlighted the importance of practical, practice-focused information, particularly PharmaCare updates, clinical resources, regulatory developments, and information related to drug shortages.

The survey also confirmed that email remains members’ preferred method of communication with BCPhA, with 84 per cent of respondents ranking it as their top choice. At the same time, many respondents expressed a desire for more streamlined communications and clearer organization of e-newsletters.

Accessibility and flexibility were recurring themes throughout the survey, with members frequently highlighting the importance of virtual participation options for events and educational opportunities, as well as quick, easy access to information.

BCPhA is currently reviewing the results in greater detail and considering how the feedback can inform future communications and initiatives. The survey findings will play an important role in helping us better understand what members value most and where opportunities may exist to enhance the member experience.

Thank you to every member who took the time to participate in the survey and share thoughtful feedback. Congratulations as well to Elaine Louie, a pharmacist from Burnaby, who won the survey participation $200 Visa Gift Card draw.
