After a successful COVID-19 booster vaccination campaign community, what is next for community pharmacists when it comes to the delivery of immunizations to the community? Lessons learned from the COVID-19 vaccination effort, along with opportunities with emerging vaccine preventable disease threats have positioned pharmacists to become leaders in the immunization space.  Learn about the current trends, emerging vaccination options, and vulnerable populations as pharmacists look ahead to the upcoming influenza season.

Learning Objectives

After attending this session, pharmacists will be better able to:

  • Discuss the impact of COVID-19 on the current vaccination landscape.
  • Learn what to expect from influenza this fall and how pharmacists can prepare for this year’s influenza season.
  • Discuss the importance of vaccinations in adults especially in seniors and those with complex medical histories.
  • Review WHO strains and vaccine types in the context of the 2022/23 NACI Influenza Statement Recommendations.

About the Speaker: Ajit Johal

Ajit has been providing immunizations and clinical education since 2012. As a community pharmacist, he is an accessible provider of immunizations to patients in the community. In 2018, he started an organization called immunize.io with a mission statement of “taking our best shot at immunizing the world”. Through “immunize.io,” he has worked with numerous organizations and communities to address “vaccine hesitancy” and improve vaccine access locally, nationally, and globally. He champions community pharmacists as leaders of immunization services and presents on this topic at a national and global level. Ajit is also a clinical assistant professor for the University of British Columbia Faculty of Sciences program. At UBC, he has previously coordinated an elective course for UBC pharmacy students in travel health and immunizations.
