Learn how different wavelengths of sunlight impact the skin, explore the mechanisms and differences of modern photoprotection formulations, and gain practical guidance for tailoring sun safety advise to individual skin types and clinical concerns. Participants will leave equipped with strategies for counseling clients, promoting daily sun-smart behaviours and supporting holistic skin health.
Learning Objectives
After attending the webinar, pharmacists will be better able to:
- Summarize the solar spectrum (UVB, UVA, visible light, and infrared radiation) and its biological effects on the skin, including DNA damage, oxidative stress, and the degradation of collagen and elastin.
- Explain mechanisms of modern photoprotection formulations, including differences between organic and mineral UV filters and addressing long-UVA protection and photostability.
- Apply photoprotection principles based on skin phototype, specific clinical skin concerns, and proper application techniques.
- Equip pharmacists with best practices for daily sun safety, effective client counseling, and promotion of holistic sun-smart behaviors.
