Protecting our patients from influenza: a seasonal update

As influenza season approaches, it's crucial for front-line pharmacists to stay informed on the latest strategies for protecting patients. This webinar will focus on the current influenza landscape, the importance of vaccination, and how to effectively communicate with patients about the risks and benefits. Join us to review the latest recommendations from the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) for the 2024-2025 season, discuss the BC Public Influenza Program, explore the co-administration of influenza vaccines with other respiratory vaccines, and analyze data on enhanced vaccines.

About the Speaker: Aaron Sihota

Aaron Sihota is a Primary Care Pharmacist and Clinical Associate Professor at the UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. He works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary group of specialist physicians and nurses to educate, monitor, and optimize patients with inflammatory skin and joint diseases.

Just in time for flu season. he along with a multidisciplinary group of colleagues from across Canada, recently published a practical Canadian consensus guidance outlining an influenza immunization implementation model of care for identifying high-risk patient populations in pharmacies. This uniquely adapts NACI recommendations to a pharmacy workflow.

He is the co-creator of a Dermatology elective course at the UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences for the E2P PharmD program. Aaron has authored textbook chapters and academic publications as well as multiple medical education programs that have been delivered across North America as well as Asia.

Aaron co-founded Pharmacy Leaders of Tomorrow (PLoT) in 2015, a platform that engages national and international thought leaders who are shaping the future of healthcare policy and practice.

Learning Hours

This program is non-accredited. Total learning hours is estimated at 1.0 hours. Participants will receive a letter of participation after completion of the survey at the end of the webinar.
