Paxlovid™ in community pharmacies

Updated on November 15, 2023 (Originally posted on March 8, 2022) In The News

The oral antiviral drug Paxlovid™ (nirmatrelvir/ritonavir) is used to treat mild-to-moderate COVID-19 in adults who do not require hospitalization and are at high risk of progressing to serious illness.

Select community pharmacies will be able to dispense Paxlovid™. Patients must contact their prescribers, who will determine if their patient should be prescribed this medication. Pharmacies will not be dispensing Paxlovid™ without a prescription. There are a number of clinically important drug-drug interactions that must be taken into consideration.

Patients wanting to learn more about Paxlovid™ treatment in B.C. can visit the Province of British Columbia's COVID-19 treatment page and the BCCDC's treatment resource page.
