Each year on November 14, people around the world mark World Diabetes Day, a global initiative led by the International Diabetes Federation to raise awareness about the growing impact of diabetes and the importance of access to care.
Diabetes requires ongoing care, education, and support to help patients manage their condition and prevent complications. Yet, millions of people worldwide still struggle to access the diabetes care they need.

How Pharmacists Support Diabetes Care in B.C.
Community pharmacists play a vital role in helping British Columbians prevent and manage diabetes. Many pharmacies across the province offer:
- Diabetes screening and risk assessments
- Education and counselling on blood glucose monitoring, nutrition, and medication management
- Ongoing support for patients living with diabetes
Pharmacists with the Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) designation provide specialized guidance, empowering patients to make informed decisions about their health and lifestyle.
If you’re concerned about your risk, talk to your local pharmacist — they can help you access tools and resources to manage diabetes effectively.
Why It Matters
Whether through early detection, medication management, or ongoing education, pharmacists are essential partners in supporting British Columbians living with diabetes. This World Diabetes Day, we’re reminded that access to diabetes care should be universal!
